Guest Post w/ Natasha Blackthorne-- going a little quote-tastic + giveaway

Morning lovelies! Natasha Blackthorne is on the blog today!! She's a pretty new to me author but...loves! Historicals and BDSM combined. *pants* So. Good! She's sharing a couple of her favorite quotes/scenes today. Check em out and leave her some love!   ~Anna

Emotionally scarred in the horrific accident that took her husband's life, Lady Cranfield is imprisoned by her lingering terror of horses and carriages. She longed to be closer to the fascinating Earl of Ruel. She sensed intuitively that he could teach her how to overcome the terrors that held her in bondage.

And now she's willing to risk almost anything-her reputation, even her virtue-to find out. But what he proposes startles her.

When the shy, studious and socially awkward young widow approached him, Ruel instantly sensed she would be the sweetest, most submissive experience of a lifetime-if only he can gain her total and complete trust. He makes her a non-negotiable offer. His help in return for her submission and obedience.

But Lady Cranfield grew up neglected by her ducal parents, raised by servants and then later ignored by her handsome, charming husband. She's learnt to protect her heart at all costs and she trusts no one but herself.

How can the jaded Earl of Ruel break through her self-protective defenses and show her how to love when he has spent his lifetime avoiding that tender trap?
Amazon | Goodreads

The first quote shows Anne has overcome her shyness to approach the Earl of Ruel. This man exudes bravery and strength, something Anne has lost touch with in herself since witnessing her husband’s violent death in their traumatic carriage accident.  Studious Anne thinks she can study Ruel like a book and learn how to be a braver person herself.

Safeword: Quinacridone (this is one of my fave reviews)
Tyler and Viv have found each other again after a three day fling three years ago. Ideally suited for each other, they try to make a relationship work. However, they soon realize Tyler was expecting a 24/7 total power exchange and Vivian will never be a 24/7 submissive. As they try to find a compromise, Vivian must deal with what a Total Power Exchange means, even if it’s only a part time power exchange, and Tyler must decide if he can live with a sometimes-Master and sometimes-boyfriend relationship.

Thanks so much for the chance to turn your blog into my personal soapbox for the day! I have a lot going on, beginning with the biggest change in my career in MANY years. For the first time in many years, I am heading into the New Year without a contract from a traditional publisher—it’s exciting and scary as hell, though at this point, the excitement is winning. So what’s coming?

The Wedding Favor

Tyrell Brown wanted to get the hell out of Houston and back to his ranch. Instead, he’s stuck on a flight to France for his best friend’s wedding. To top it off, he discovers he’s sharing a seat with Victoria Westin, the blue-eyed, stiletto-heeled lawyer who’s been a thorn in his side for months.

Victoria can’t believe it! How can she be at the same wedding as this long, lean cowboy with a killer smile? So what if they shared a few in-flight cocktails, some serious flirting, and a near-miss at the mile-high club? She still can’t stand the man!

The wedding disaster’s in the rear view, but the sizzle between these two is still red-hot. They tried to be on their best behavior in France, but back in the States all bets are off . . .

Everything Bared-- 4.5 stars!

It’s great to be here at Herding Cats & Burning Soup today. Thank you, Anna, for inviting me to be a part of the Authors for the Holidays event. It’s been a lot of fun so far! I’ve picked an excerpt that I think works well for the Quote-tastic Meme. It’s funny and steamy all at once, as well as being a twist on the old “office-sex” cliché. Writing this scene involved many laughs and calls to my critique partner as I imagined poor William’s predicament. I hope you enjoy it.

Why I Don’t Write with Cats in the Room

The first thing that drew me to Anna’s blog was the name. Anyone who can poke fun at herding cats, and come up with kick ass kitty graphics is OK by me! I’m a lifelong feline lover, and the (un)lucky slave of three wonderful (horrible) cats. Lily, the Siamese is the conniving, 100-ways-to-kill-the-humans, plotter. Ana May is the stray-turned Queen of All Who Live, who has managed to knock down every ornament from the lower half of the holiday tree about twenty times, and Boobers is the old-fart who only gets up when we poke him. They are furry tornadoes, cannon-balling through the holiday tree, licking the cookies, batting the fudge like a hockey puck and pulling down the stockings. The overall mayhem they cause once a year during the holidays is nothing compared to the general shenanigans they cause every day. In fact, the cats are so wicked, they are no longer allowed in the same room with me while I’m writing. Here’s why:

I want to give a huge shout out to Anna for having me again. I love the readers of Herding Cats & Burning Soup. You are all supportive and truly awesome.

Today, I’d like to share with you a quote from my most recent release – Passionate Addiction, book 2 in the Reckless Beat rock star series.

Throughout the book, Gabi and Blake have disagreements on when saying, ‘I love you,’ counts. You know, like after sex, or in the effort to get sex, those words simply don’t mean anything. This is a short quote from one of those moments after an intimate scene between them.

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before...to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's been doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her new found thirst for an angel's blood...

Wilde for Her
Former homicide detective Camden Wilde has been in love with his ex-partner, Eva Cardoso, for longer than he cares to admit. Not that it matters. She’s shoved him into the friend zone, and after living through the hell of his parents’ violent deaths, Cam’s unable to give her the idyllic life she secretly desires.

Eva’s never met a person who hasn’t let her down. Cam may be sex personified, but he’s the only man she can trust, and there’s no way she’ll risk their friendship on the off-chance they could be more. Especially not after the one scintillating night she’s trying—and failing—to forget.

When a murder-for-hire contract on his head lands Eva on his doorstep, Cam knows it’s time to put up or shut up. He’s done biding his time, and he’ll be damned if he lets the delectable detective ignore what’s between them, no matter the cost.

I love the holidays. Okay, yeah, I can do without the snow, but other than that I really enjoy the season. Christmas carols. Quality time with family, friends. Tons of oh so good food that is oh so bad for you. Every year, my family gets together and combines all three of those things for one Saturday filled with cookie-making goodness. It’s our tradition to spend the entire day making dozens of batches of Christmas cookies and then split them up at the end of the evening so everyone has some to take home for Santa’s visit. It’s always been a favorite tradition of mine because, well, who doesn’t like cookies?

So, with that in mind, I wanted to share one of my absolute favorite cookie recipes. If you like chocolate and mint together, this recipe will be your undoing. In the best possible way, of course.

So, kinda neat... There's a short story coming out for Alice and Hatter!
Check out a bit of Hatter's Treasure before anyone else!

Hatter stared at his wall of clocks, all those tick-tocking clocks that helped ease the confusing noise in his head. One hand tucked behind his back, he ran his fingers along the smooth surface of one of his favorites with the other. It was a wooden cuckoo clock of German origin. The wood was a rich umber; the tiny bird poking its head out so well fashioned that one might imagine it would take flight any moment. He treasured his timepieces, each one holding significance in his long, long life.

Alice had stayed. She’d told him she loved him. She’d saved him from the madness of his mind. “My beautiful, beautiful Alice. Tick, tock, tick, tock…” he muttered, entranced as the miniature bird chimed the new hour, blinking only when it returned to its cubby hole.

Staring at the cavern full of memories he inhaled deeply, smelling her sunshiney scent of vanilla and caramel still clinging all over him. They’d made love this morning atop a bed of spongy, golden brain coral as sunlight dappled the water around them a speckled shade of glassy blue and sparkling silver. Her honeyed skin gleaming, the glossy black hair covering her breasts, reminding him of a seductive siren trying to lure him to his death.

But hers was a death he’d gladly fall into. He’d steal a kiss from her poisoned lips with a smile upon his face...

And a recipe too!

Here's a recipe from my book Her Mad Hatter. It's one of the cupcakes I mentioned in the book. Alice Hu's Red Queen's Revenge. I've made these cupcakes many times and they're absolutely delicious. They rarely last longer than half a day, and if I take them to any gathering they're devoured. Not only are they gorgeous, they're ridiculously easy to make. People will think you've slaved for hours. Anybody can do this and make them successfully. It's my go to desert, and at Christmas time it's really fun to get green and pink peppercorns, grind them together and then lightly scatter them on top of the cream cheese frosting. Not too much to overwhelm, but just enough to add a little pop of Christmas color!

Alice Hu’s Red Queen’s Revenge Cupcakes:
Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/3 cups vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon white distilled vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Cream Cheese Frosting, recipe follows
  • A small palmful of pink and green peppercorns, roughly chopped
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line mini cupcake or muffin pans with 48 mini cupcake liners or line regular-size cupcake or muffin pans with 24 regular cupcake liners.
In mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. In another mixing bowl, stir together the eggs and oil. In a mixing cup, mix together the buttermilk, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla extract and lightly whisk. Gradually add the dry ingredients and buttermilk mixture to the egg mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. We are trying to achieve a dark brown, red cupcake color, so add more cocoa powder, if the red is not deep enough. Then add the batter to the mini cupcake liners until they are 3/4-full and bake for 13 to 14 minutes, or until done. Alternately, fill the regular-size cupcake liners and bake 22 minutes, or until done. Let the cupcakes cool completely.
Cream Cheese Frosting:
Combine the sugar, cream cheese, butter, salt, and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl and blend for 2 minutes.

And finally, the Queen’s Revenge, take a small dusting of pink and green peppercorn and carefully sprinkle the tops of each cupcake. Both sweet and spicy!
