Tasty Tuesday: Saltine Cracker Toffee

Saltine Cracker Toffee!

So one of my friends left me the recipe for this the other day in one of her comments and I have officially decided this "friend" has just a wee bit o' evil in her. OMG so addictive and yummy!

Yep. This pretty much goes against all of my "eat healthier" plans...

Combine sugar and butter on medium/high heat.

Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes.

Meanwhile lay out your saltine crackers in nice even lines like so :)

If you use a pan that's not quite the right size like I did you might have to add a few more crackers and break some in half.

Pour butter/sugar mix over crackers!

Spread it around a bit. A rubber spatula worked nicely for this.
Bake for 10-15 minutes.

Then sprinkle with chocolate chips and spread those about too!

You might have to do a little reheating in the oven if the chips don't melt easily. It was really cold in the house when I made this so I had to pop it back in the oven for a minute to get them melty enough to spread.

Then refrigerate until hardened and break into pieces.

Aaaannnddd the reason Miss Tonya G is a wee bit evil. Oy. So good. It's actually a lot like the pretzel bark I make. Except for the saltine part all the ingredients are the same but it's got a very different texture and is pretty hard to resist.

So, what's your favorite "naughty" treat? Have you made Saltine Cracker Toffee before? I think it would be great around the holidays when you have a ton of people around and need something quick, easy and that'll disappear real damn fast so you don't end up eating it all on your own.

Saltine Cracker Toffee Recipe

1 sleeve saltine crackers (plus a few extras if your pan isn't the right size)
2 sticks butter
1 cup sugar
12 oz milk chocolate chips (you can use semisweet if you prefer)
crushed pecans or peanuts if you want

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Use a cookie sheet with sides because you will be pouring liquid into it.
  • Spray aluminum foil with Pam. (I forgot to do this step and it still worked fine)
  • Place one sleeve of Saltines on cookie sheet. Side by side, close together.
  • Melt 2 sticks butter & 1 cup sugar on medium heat. Bring to a boil & let it boil for 3 minutes.
  • Pour over crackers.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and sprinkle 12 oz milk chocolate chips on top. Spread them with a spatula. Return to oven if the chips don't melt enough to spread.
  • You can add crushed pecans or peanuts on top. Just put them on top of the melted chocolate.
  • Refrigerate until hard & then break it into small pieces.
