West of Want (Hearts of the Anemoi #2) by Laura Kaye

When Marcella Raines’ twin brother dies, she honors his request to be buried at sea, never expecting the violent storm that swamps her boat. Recently divorced over her infertility and gravely injured, Ella still fights to survive.

Zephyros Martius is the Supreme God of the West Wind and Spring, but being the strongest Anemoi hasn’t saved him from betrayal and loss—worse, he’s sure his brother Eurus is behind it. When Zeph’s heartbreak whips up a storm that shipwrecks a human, his guilt leads him to save her, but he vows not to get involved.

Ella’s honesty, empathy, and unique calming influence attract Zeph like no other, and he finds himself wanting…everything. Ella knows Zeph’s different and fears rejection, but falls for his otherworldly masculinity and ancient, sad blue eyes. When Eurus threatens Ella, she and Zeph struggle to let go of the past, defend their future, and embrace what they most want—a love that can be trusted.

Oh boy do the gods love them some drama! West of Want is the second book from Laura Kaye's Hearts of the Anemoi series and it's something else. Drama abounds, there's a whirlwind romance, a bit of betrayal thrown into the mix and some truly heart stopping moments. Basically. It's an excellent read and one that left me eagerly, patiently *snort* waiting for what will come next in the series.

West of Want was a little different than the first book in the series, North of Need, (and if you know me you KNOW that is one of my favorite-est books ever!) but it was just as delicious. This time around there was a lot more interaction between all of the different gods which was really interesting. And like I said these men love them some drama and really didn't disappoint. Long standing feuds reared their ugly heads with Zyph and his brother Eurus, punishments were inflicted, etc. The world building was fantastic and I loved getting to see how the Anemoi and other gods worked and dealt (or rather didn't) with each other.

Ella and Zypherous were fabulous. Ella. I just loved her. She's got a cute little quirk with green m&ms, is sweet and kind. And Zypherous. Whew. He's got a little edge to him and damn that man...god...has a lot of passion in him. I loved when he'd lose control of himself and his emotions and would rain down some damage. It was pretty impressive and completely spell binding.

The two are both dealing with loss and betrayal which can really make your heart for them. I loved watching them explore what they'd finally found in each other. The romance wasn't quite as strong as I was hoping for since it was a little rushed for my taste. But it was still very enjoyable and  steamy-wise, whew. Kaye can write some sexy scenes like you wouldn't believe.

The start and ending of the story were incredible. Kaye had me on the edge of my seat multiple times and actually really surprised me with how things turned out. I didn't see all of it coming and I absolutely loved those twists and turns. I'm excited as hell about seeing where the series goes next. I'm already totally smitten with Chrysander (who's book South of Surrender is up next) and his delicious self and Eurus? Well, Kaye has her work cut out for her where he's concerned. That is one scary-ass angry god. But damn if I can't wait to see what happens to him either!
